Legendary actress and activist Jane Fonda will be bestowed with the actors union's highest honor, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
The "9 to 5" star will be the 60th recipient of the award granted for career and humanitarian accomplishments, which will be bestowed at the 31st annual SAG Awards (streaming on Netflix Feb. 23).Fonda's previous honors include two Oscars ("Klute" and "Coming Home"), two BAFTA Awards, an Emmy, the 2015 AFI Life Achievement Award and the 2024 Time magazine Earth Award. The actress is a passionate environmental activist who was arrested multiple times during her Fire Drill Fridays protests in Washington, D.C. Fonda was an outspoken critic of the Vietnam War, drawing controversy with a 1972 trip to North Vietnam that is still polarizing today.
Fonda said she was "deeply honored" by the lifetime award from fellow actors, according to a SAG-AFTRA media release Thursday.
"I have been working in this industry for almost the entirety of my life and there's no honor like the one bestowed on you by your peers," said Fonda, who noted she is a "proud" SAG-AFTRA member.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher called Fonda "a trailblazer and an extraordinary talent" and "a dynamic force who has shaped the landscape of entertainment, advocacy and culture with unwavering passion" in the release.
